Boating Safety

Boat America - A Course for Responsible Boating

“Boat America” is the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Boating Safety Course endorsed by the State of Maine and required to obtain your Maine Boating Safety Certificate card.

This is a comprehensive introductory course designed to meet the boating education needs of recreational boaters and includes specific requirements established by Maine Boating Laws. This course will provide general information about boats and maintenance, information to make your boating experience safer and more comfortable, and tips on how to be a more courteous boat operator. Students will receive a manual with the course and must pass a NASBLA exam at the end of the course to obtain the Maine Boating Safety Certificate card. Students should plan to bring lunch to class.

Chapter 2: Before You Get Underway

Chapter 3: Operating Your Boat Safely

Chapter 4: The Legal Requirements of Boating

Chapter 5: Boating Emergencies...What to Do

Chapter 6: Enjoying Water Sports with Your Boat

Beginning January 1, 2024, a person ages 12 to 25 (increasing by one year every year thereafter) that operates a boat with a motor greater than 25HP on inland waters of this State or territorial waters (3 miles offshore) will be required to have successfully completed a state mandated Boating Safety Education course and possess and present for inspection a State Issued Boater Safety and Education Certificate Card.

Babysitter Certification

For youth ages 11-15 who want to become responsible babysitters! This course is taught by a certified EMT-I, 911 Dispatcher and mom. The goal is to provide youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent accidents and respond to emergencies while supervising younger children. They will learn basic care, child safety and first aid skills as well as receive CPR training! Participants will receive a take-home babysitter manual, a CPR manual and a course completion card at the end of the class. Pre-registration is required in order for the instructor to be prepared with enough materials. Participants should bring a snack and water bottle.

ZUMBA - Session 2

The class that started the dance-fitness revolution and changed the way we look at a “workout” forever. It’s fun, effective and best of all? Made for everyone! It is a dance fitness cardio class with roots in latin rhythms. Wear sneakers and comfortable clothes, bring water and a towel. Erin has been teaching Zumba since 2014, with hundreds of students across Maine and beyond! CPR

The CPR class includes adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, adult, child and infant choking, and how and when to call emergency services.  The course cost includes use of manikins, video, certified instructor, practical components and a certificate of completion.  Video portion has been shortened and the practical time has been increased to ensure enough time to gain skill confidence.  This class is taught to the standards established by the American Heart Association.  Workbook not included but can be purchased for $10 at the time of class.

Wok & Cleaver Bootcamp

Hands-on instruction from a pro - Chris Toy will be in the house providing expert hands on instruction and lots of fun! Learn how to season, care for, and use a Chinese wok and cleaver. You'll take home a specially selected kit with a seasoned wok appropriate for all heating sources, long handled wok spatula, sharpened professional restaurant grade cleaver, honing steel, edge guard, large cutting board , and one of Chris' popular cookbooks. (kit valued at over $200). Of course, to learn all these steps, there must be food involved! Bring a container for left-overs!
